7 Tips to Find a Design Job Through Facebook
2Finding a good design job can seem impossible. If you have applied to design companies in your area and sent out resumes in the mail and still haven’t had any luck, you may want to try finding a job through Facebook.
Tip #1: Use a Professional Profile
Decide if you want to find a job through your personal Facebook profile or if you want to create a new one that is more on the professional side. Personal profiles may give employers an unnecessary look into your personal life and certain photos, status updates or comments could persuade them not to offer you a job. A professional profile should only be used to find a job and demonstrate your design skills. You may want to include some personal information, but you should not communicate with casual friends and acquaintances or post photos, statuses or comments that do not have anything to do with you design interests and qualifications.
Tip #2: Sell Yourself
Just as you want to promote yourself with a resume or during an interview, you will want to do the same with your professional Facebook page. Fill out your profile with important and accurate information. List your education background, including the name of the schools you attended, your majors, the year you graduated and the degree or degrees you hold. In the photos section, upload samples of your design work. If your work can not be uploaded as photos, post the links to it in the “About Me” section of the profile. Add work history that pertains to any design jobs or experience you have had in the past. Add a list of qualifications and an objective that states the type of design job your are looking for and why you chose to work in the design field. Treat your entire profile as a resume and cover letter. You can also check How to Sell Yourself Online as a Designer.
Tip #3 Add Friends and Like Pages
Add professional design businesses as friends and like pages that are associated with the type of design work that you do. If you are aware of certain design companies or have a special interest in them, search for them on Facebook. Like pages that have been created for web designers, technical designers and other types of design that you are familiar with and interested in.

Join groups that have been created for designers, and add other designers that have professional profiles and seem to have the same goals and ambitions as you. Research the different design companies online and search for them on Facebook to see if they have a profile. Build your friends list smartly and do not clutter it with bad job leads or fake profiles.
Tip #4: Check the News Feed Often
Check your news feed everyday to find out what is going on with your friends and business pages. When companies are hiring new designers, they may provide hiring information on their Facebook status. If you have friends or business profiles that do not show up in your news feed, click on the profiles to read the information they have posted. You can also check the profiles for contact information. Be sure to read each profile completely for information about the type of designers they work with and information about the hiring process. Tip #5: Contact the Companies
Compose a message similar to a cover letter and send it to the companies you are interested in. The letter should state that you are a designer looking for work, how you came across the company, your education history and qualifications and why you would like to work for the company. Keep the message professional but short and to the point. Some companies may not reply back, others may reply with more information on the company, and the hiring process. You can continue to message the company to talk more about available jobs and positions.
Tip# 6 Contact Design Friends
Contact your design friends to see if they are aware of any design companies you should apply to or add to your friends list. You can also discuss the different companies you have worked for and exchange tips and contacts. It is best to send private messages to your friends instead of contacting them through the news feed with comments. Some companies may not like to be discussed and, if they read your discussions, may remove you from their friends list or choose not to consider you for employment. You can also post tips and ask questions in any design groups you are a part of. Many Facebook groups are private, which means only other group members can read the conversations that take place. Check all of the group members before asking question or posting information about specific design companies.
Tip #7 Participate in Facebook Design Contests
Many design companies will offer online contests where they ask designers to enter their designs. The winners are often rewarded with cash prices or coveted design positions at the company. These contests may be advertised on the company’s page, in the news feed or through paid Facebook advertisements that appear at the top or sides of the page. Because Facebook is so popular and has so many members, these contests are highly competitive. Be sure to take your time when completing your design project that will be entered in the contest. Pay close attention to contest rules, guidelines and deadlines to make sure you are not disqualified. You may want to avoid sharing contest information with your friends and groups, as this will bring in more competitors and make your changes of winning lower.
Once your profile has been created and maintained, you will begin to receive friend requests, comments, messages and replies from the designers, groups and companies you have contacted. Be sure to continue through the hiring process with a professional attitude to ensure you land the perfect design job.

Awsome article! Thanks for sharing! I’m struggling to self-promotion, and I am currently searching about different methods.
Have you ever tried to use a site, like freelancer, elance, guru, pph, odesk?
They are an online marketplace that brings together buyers and sellers. The buyers propose projects and the sellers bid on these projects. The sellers, of course, are almost always freelancers.
If you have the right abilities for the job, definitely try to look at this kind of sites and be an aspect of. As well, someone who have done self employment, might still discover that they are better off on their own.
The income is usually ok, but not incredible either. But if you are looking for extremely certified employees, this is a good place to look.
My personal experience was quite good, using many of them to create portfolios. Perhaps http://www.peopleperhour.com/ was the most successful for me, as it has an ability to maintain quality in the jobs posted. (:
If you could, I would like to know your opinion. If you already have an article about this subject, please let me know ^^
